GARDEN BUILDING & EDUCATION

Outside of traditional writing, I translate my communication and teamwork skills gained from Editing, Writing, and Media to real life change. I worked with Heather Light and Dylan Krous at the School of Arts and Sciences to build a rooftop garden and hydroponic system. My involvement with this project spanned start to finish. Heather and I developed the idea of what we wanted the garden to look like and what purpose it would serve. Dylan and I worked to draw the dimensions for each of the three raised, wooden garden beds. There were several Home Depot trips and garden construction days but by the end of Fall 2016, the garden beds were in full use. As for the hydroponic system, the school received a grant from Espositos so I have helped Heather add nutrients to the water and to educate her class with the hydroponic indoor garden.

REMEDIATION PROJECT

In this video I show case my ability to blend writing and science as I dissect the five modes of communication through the lens of a science major. The goal for the project was to take a written text and alter the information into a piece to be viewed on the screen. For this video I used What Are Multimodal Projects by Kristin Arola, Jennifer Sheppard, and Cheryl Ball. I covered their information about the fives modes of communication and then performed a remediation of the multimodality material so it applies to the sciences.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH

Starting Fall 2016 and through the present, I seized the research opportunities Florida State provides to their students, participating in the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) as well as Directed Independent Study (DIS). Through UROP I started with the plant and insect ecology lab led by Nora Underwood. My graduate student Jessie Mutz and I studied the effects of aggregation (group size) on larval growth rates. I was able to present my research at the Spring 2017 Undergraduate Research Symposium poster presentation. I plan to continue researching with the Underwood Lab through my own DIS project Summer 2017, investigating in the field of plant chemical defenses.

ECO-REPS VIDEO

This is a video I directed and produced. Video footage was shot and edited by Melissa Kaye Angel. Made for the Eco-Reps program under the Sustainable Campus department at Florida State University.

This is a great place to showcase a sample of your written work or write short description about your project. Did you collaborate on a print or multimedia project? If so, dazzle your visitors with images and video! Make sure to include a link to the full live project or document so readers can enjoy the entire piece.

TALLAHASSEE NARRATIVES

Fall 2018

A video I created for my class ENG 4815 What Is A Text. We sought to explore the connections between medium, textuality, and push the boundaries of what is possible to call a capital T "Text" in 2018. The final project for the class was to use only sound and pictures to tell an underrepresented Tallahassee Narrative and argue for why it should be more well known!
